Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a subclass of mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) that have inherited some of this type of network's features. Due to road accidents, these networks are a promising technology to increase passengers' comfort and safety and increase road safety and provide traffic information. In vehicular ad hoc networks, it is challenging to design an efficient routing protocol for data routing in vehicles due to rapid topology changes and frequent disconnections. Applications in these fields require efficient routing protocols. The design of a routing protocol must be done both in terms of useful information dissemination and under the information dissemination environment's actual conditions. In this paper, we overview the existing VANET routing protocols; As there are different routing protocols in VANET, we need to do detailed research on various routing protocols and their strengths/weaknesses. The routing protocols essentially concentrate on delay, packet delivery magnitude relation, information measure utilization, and plenty of alternative factors. However, there are challenges to select a routing protocol to a dynamic topology and special characteristics of VANETs. VANET is extremely advantageous because it helps in up the road safety through reducing the amount of accidents by warning drivers regarding the danger before they really face it and different facilities to comfort drivers.

Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANETs) is a novel technology that has recently emerged and due to its swift changing topology and high mobility nature, it has become problematic to design an efficient routing protocol in VANETs’ amongst both moving and stationary units. Also, the existing routing algorithms are not very effective to satisfy all requirements of VANETs. This paper explores the need of a reliable routing and proposes an approach that makes use of an extended restricted greedy forwarding mechanism to select the next forwarding vehicle on basis of its average relative velocity and neighborhood density with its own neighboring vehicles. We also use static PCR junction node which forwards the packet to correct road segment vehicle based upon the relative information. The objective of this paper is to increase route reliability by increasing throughput with considerable end to end delay. Simulation results show that the proposed approach IJDRP outperforms existing GPCR and E-GyTAR.

The systems in which information and communication technologies and systems engineering concepts are utilized to develop and improve transportation systems of all kinds are called “The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)”. ITS integrates information, communications, computers and other technologies and uses them in the field of transportation to build an integrated system of people, roads and vehicles by utilizing advanced data communication technologies. Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks which is a subset of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks, provide Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V), Vehicle to Roadside (V2R) and Vehicle to Infrastructure (V2I) communications and plays an important role in Intelligent Transportation System. Due to special characteristics of VANETs, QoS (Quality of Service) provisioning in these networks is a challenging task. QoS is the capability of a network for providing superior service to a selected network traffic over various heterogeneous technologies. In this paper we present an overview of Vehicular Networks, QoS Concepts, QoS challenges in VANETs and approaches which aim to enhance the Quality of Service in Vehicular Networks

Nowadays, developed and developing countries using smart systems to solve their transportation problems. Parking guidance intelligent systems for finding an available parking space, are considered one of the architectural requirements in transportation. In this paper, we present a parking space reservation method based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy system(ANFIS) and multi-objective genetic algorithm. In modeling of this system, final destination, searching time and cost of parking space have been used. Also, we use the vehicle ad-hoc network (VANET) and time series, for traffic flow predict and choose the best path. The benefits of the proposed system are declining searching time, average the walking and travel time. Evaluations have been performed by the MATLAB and we can see that the proposed method makes a good sum of best cost which is useful and meaningful in a parking space reserved for drivers and facility managers. The simulation results show that the performance and accuracy of the method have been significantly improved compared to previous works.

The Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) provides wireless and mobile communication between vehicles and infrastructure to improve the safety of transportation and make the journey more enjoyable. This system consists of many fixed and mobile nodes (Vehicles, Trains, Vessels, Air planes), Wireless and Wired Telecommunication Technologies to exchange information between mobile nodes or between mobile nodes and fixed stations. The most common transportation tools are cars. Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks as an Application of Mobile Ad-hoc Networks and one of the subsets of Intelligent Transportation System provides wireless Ad-hoc communication between vehicles. VANET is a mobile wireless technology which is designed to improve safety of transportation with exchanging real time data between vehicles and providing different services to the users. It has special characteristics like high mobility and provides a broad range of services to the users, so it has been emerged as one of the research interests in the field of computer and telecommunication networks. In This paper we present different aspects of ITS and VANET to help the researchers to understand the Architecture, Communication Technologies and Applications of these networks.
